Washington State DOT Fish Passages

A national treasure and local Pacific Northwest icon, salmon are an important part of our nation’s natural history and economy. Unfortunately, significant amounts of salmon habitat have been lost over the last 125 years. It is critical for adult salmon to have open spawning passages so they may produce the next generation of fish. There are many culverts that were built years ago that are blocking fish migration. In spite of the fact that salmon species have adapted to use virtually every part of every stream in the northwest, old culverts or culverts that were not designed properly do not provide adequate conditions for fish passage. EES is part of a team tasked with developing engineering plans and stream modeling to support the Preliminary Hydraulic Design report for several design and design build projects replacing creek and stream crossings of the state transportation highways. EES provides CAD modeling design and drafting services and design plans for locations along state highways including Interstates 5 and 90 and State Route 18. EES is also responsible for project management of the drafting and design support for replacement of creek crossings project. Projects include working alongside the water resources engineers, hydraulic modeling of the existing crossings, and modeling the proposed replacement stream crossings, and production of the Preliminary and Final Hydraulic Design reports.
